Emotions

Shame

The feeling of being exposed or unworthy because of something we did or something that happened to us.

What the Bible can tell you

There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who don't walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit.

Romans 8:1

"Don't be afraid, for you will not be ashamed. Don't be confounded, for you will not be disappointed. For you will forget the shame of your youth. You will remember the reproach of your widowhood no more.

Isaiah 54:4

They looked to him, and were radiant. Their faces shall never be covered with shame.

Psalms 34:5

A human reading

Shame says you are bad, while guilt says you did something bad. That difference matters. The text encourages us to lift our heads, because there is no condemnation for those who are in a trusting relationship with God.

This page offers reflection and companionship; it does not replace a professional. If what you feel weighs heavily or lasts for weeks, talk with someone you trust or with a health professional.
